SkillSelect invitation rounds for Australia’s Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) and Skilled Work Regional Visa (Provisional) (Subclass 491) are held periodically during the 2023-24 program year.

State or Government nomination rounds for skilled immigrants are not impacted by the Department’s invitation rounds.

Occupation Ceilings for Invitation Rounds

When immigrating under the Independent and Skilled Work Regional Visa (Provisional) (Subclass 491) – an “occupation ceiling” may be applied to the invitations being issued. Meaning, there will be a limit on the number of Expression of Interest (EOIs) that can be targeted for skilled immigrants from an in demand occupation in Australia.

The values in the occupation ceiling are based on the percentage of stock employment figures provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics for each in demand occupation in Australia.

State, Territory Nominated, or Business Innovation & Investment Visa Subclasses are not eligible for occupation ceilings.
