Looking to work abroad?
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become a leading destination for professionals and recent graduates looking to work abroad from India.
With a rapidly growing economy and high demand for skilled workers, the UAE offers attractive salaries, often 3-4 times higher than those in India, along with tax-free income. Employment benefits, such as comprehensive healthcare, paid leave, and modern work facilities, make the UAE an appealing choice for Indians looking to advance their careers abroad.
Indian immigrants form a significant part of the UAE’s workforce. As of 2024, the Indian population stands at 4.75 million, making up 37.96% of the total expatriate population - contributing to various sectors like technology, finance, healthcare, and construction. Many choose the UAE not only for its career prospects but also for its proximity to India, vibrant expat community, and high quality of life.

The process to apply for a UAE Work Visa from India can be carried out in 5 easy steps.
STEP 1: Secure a Job Offer: Before applying, you must have a valid job offer from a UAE employer (if required). The employer will initiate the work visa process by applying for a permit with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
STEP 2: Employer Applies for Work Permit: Once the job offer is confirmed, your employer will apply for a Work Permit (Labour Card) through MOHRE. This involves submitting documents like your passport copy, job contract, and educational qualifications for approval.
STEP 3: Complete Medical Examination: After the work permit is approved, you’ll need to undergo a medical examination at a certified health centre in India. The medical test includes a general check-up and screening for infectious diseases like tuberculosis.
STEP 4: Apply for a Residency Visa: After passing the medical test, your employer will initiate the residency visa process. You’ll need to submit additional documents such as a passport copy, medical certificate, and proof of employment. The residency visa allows you to stay and work in the UAE.
STEP 5: Receive Work Visa and Enter UAE: Once the residency visa is approved, you will receive your UAE Work Visa. This allows you to travel to the UAE. Upon arrival, complete any final procedures, such as fingerprinting, to finalize your work permit and officially start your employment.
Within each specific UAE visa type, fees can vary due to factors like the applicant's nationality, the nature of their occupation (highly skilled vs. semi-skilled), location within the UAE (mainland or free zones), and additional services (such as expedited processing or in-country applications).

After receiving your UAE Work Visa and arriving in the UAE, the first step is to complete a medical examination. This test checks for diseases like tuberculosis and hepatitis, which is required before applying for a Residence Permit. Once you pass the medical test, your employer will help you with the next steps.
The next important step is applying for your Residence Permit and Labor Card. These documents allow you to live and work legally in the UAE. Your employer will usually assist with the application process. Additionally, you must apply for an Emirates ID, which is needed for many essential services like opening a bank account and accessing healthcare.
Finally, make sure you have a bank account and health insurance. Most employers provide health insurance - but make sure that you are covered. Opening a bank account requires your Emirates ID. It’s also important to understand the laws and regulations in the UAE to avoid any issues while living and working there.
