When you apply for Canada PR via Express Entry, it is crucial to keep your profile updated. Changes in profile affect your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, boosting your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR from India.
Whether your residential address changed, you got improved language scores, or there is a change in your marital status, it should be reflected in your Express Entry profile without delay. If you are getting married or want to add your spouse to your PR application, you may be left confused with many questions in your mind.
This blog answers them all.
First things first, if you wish to become a permanent resident of Canada, you must apply for PR through Express Entry programs. With a quick processing time of 6 months, it is the fastest way to immigrate to Canada. In fact, Canada is aiming to welcome 110,770 new PRs in 2024 alone.
To get started, you must check your eligibility for Canada PR using a 67-point calculator. This will assess your age, work experience, language skills, education, marital status, and other factors. You need 67 points out of 100 to be eligible.
If you’re eligible, create a profile in the Express Entry system. Enter the pool where your profile will be ranked against a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Your age, work experience, marital status, language skills, education, and other factors will be taken into account.
IRCC conducts Express Entry draws every two weeks, sending candidates - with the highest CRS cut-off - an ITA to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
Any changes occurring before or after submitting the application must be updated immediately.
Here are different scenarios that can occur:
Scenario 1: If you are getting married after submitting your profile
It is mandatory to reveal any changes to your PR application, including dependent spouses. Then you can either add them or not as dependents on their own applications, but this requires more paperwork.
Scenario 2: If you got married after receiving an ITA but before submitting an application
In this case, you are still required to update your Express Entry profile with family information. Now that your family composition has changed, you must inform the IRCC, no matter if your spouse is not accompanying you to Canada. But if they are, your CRS score will change. Make sure it still is high to get an ITA. If not, there are proven methods to boost your CRS score for Express Entry.
If your application has already been submitted, you can add your new spouse. First, inform IRCC about the change in your marital status. They will send you an additional list of documents to submit.
Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Log into your account using a unique username and password.
Step 2: Select marital status to married.
Step 3: Add information about your spouse such as their full name, date of birth, country of birth, nationality, and other relevant information.
Step 4: Double-check the information you provided and save the changes.
Step 5: Depending on your situation, provide supporting documents to confirm your marital status and the legitimacy of your relationship such as marriage certificates, photos, joint bank statements, and more.
Step 6: Submit your profile and keep an eye on the account for any updates or requests by IRCC.
Provide correct information because false information will have serious consequences on your application.
Simply, log into My Account and view their details. If they’re not listed as your dependent on the PR application, this means IRCC is still processing their information. Your spouse must be admissible to Canada, meeting the medical, criminal, and security requirements. If they don’t, this will make them inadmissible and will impact your PR application directly.
