You will need the UK Student Visa to Study in the UK if you are a non-EU citizen. You will have to first file an application with a UK institution for acceptance into a study program. Once your application is processed and accepted, they will share with you a reference number also known as the CAS - Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies.

CAS is a very crucial document as it is mandatory to file an application for the UK Study Visa.

The CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies)

The Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies is a digital document that consists of confidential data. It included your personal data, details of the study program, and the fee payable.

A section of the CAS needs you to offer all your existing academic credentials such as a transcript of your high school or Bachelor’s degree. You will be required to possess all the original documents for this section.

Further, you may also have to appear for an authorized English language exam such as the IELTS Test as a part of your UK Student Visa application. If the test is required, this will be specified on your form. The CAS has to be included in the final UK Study Visa application that you submit.

Types of UK Study Visas

Student Visitor Visa / Study Visa Short-term

If your study program in the UK has a duration of less than 6 months, you will need a Student Visitor Visa. You can enter the UK on this Visa for a maximum of 7 days before the commencement of the study program.

The application for the Short-term Study Visa can be submitted a maximum of 3 months before the actual date of arrival in the UK.

Student Pathway Visa

If your study program in the UK has a duration of more than 6 months, you will need the Student Pathway Visa. You will be eligible for this UK Student Visa only if your institution in the UK has the sponsorship license for this Visa. Further, you must secure 40 of 40 in the points-based system for the UK Visa to become eligible for the Visa.

UK Student Visa Online Application

You will have to follow the below three steps for the UK Study Visa application after you get the CAS:

Step 1: Complete the online application form and pay the specified fee

Step 2: Visit a UK VAC - Visa Application Centre and submit your biometrics and photographs

Step 3: Collate supporting documents and print the application

The application form for the UK Student Visa has to be filed online by creating an account using an authentic email address. The application fee for the Visa is £348 and the payment has to be done immediately after completing the form.

Later you have to visit the VAC nearest to you to submit your biometrics and photographs.

You have to book a slot and after receiving the appointment, you must reach the VAC a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the slot. This is a very crucial stage in the application process and you have to ensure that you are dressed appropriately.

Also, ensure that there are no cuts on your fingers or face as this can give a bad impression. Moreover, if you have any tattoos, cover them up. Upon completion of the formalities, you will get a document that has to be sent with the filled application form.

After submitting all the details, you may have to wait for up to 3 weeks for the verdict on your application and its communication to you.
