Citizens of India are required to file an application for a Germany Work Visa and a Residence Permit to arrive in Germany for paid employment. To receive the Work Visa, they must have an employment contract/job offer from an employer in Germany.

You can immigrate to Germany for work if you have completed eligible study courses or vocational training overseas and get a Residence Permit as per the Residence Act, Section 18a. Alternatively, you can get it under the Residence Act, Section 18b to undertake eligible employment as a skilled worker in Germany.

The requirements for a Germany Work Visa

  • Your educational credentials have to be accepted in Germany or be on par with a degree in Germany. If you are keen to work in a profession that is regulated, like a Healthcare occupation, you will require a license for practice in Germany.
  • You must have a particular offer of a job from a German employer. It is crucial that the offered job is in an eligible position. It implies that you will normally require vocational training or a degree to do the job. Auxiliary tasks will not be adequate for this purpose.
  • Your occupation need not be connected to your professional qualifications. However, you will need a license to practice if you intend to work in a regulated profession.

Overseas professionals who are aged more than 45 years can also arrive in Germany to work for the first time as well. For this, they must take up a job in Germany that offers them a gross yearly income of a minimum of Euros 49,830. Alternatively, they can demonstrate that they possess sufficient pension provisions.

Documents Required for a Germany Work Visa

You will have to provide the following documents with the Germany Work Visa application:

  • A lawful passport that has a minimum of 2 blank pages that has been offered in the past 10 years and has a validity of a minimum of 1 year
  • Two copies of the Work Visa application form that are filled completely and have your signature
  • The declaration that offers extra information about the contact and lawful representation
  • Three photographs of passport size as per the standards for Schengen biometric photo and not older than 6 months
  • Passport data page copy in size A4 and twin copies
  • Annexure that offers details regarding your employment in Germany, twin copies
  • The declaration regarding the employment contract has to be filled out by the future employer along with their signature to be submitted along with the Visa application form
  • Evidence of vocational training in your nation of residence, if applicable
  • Partial recognition/ deficit notification and this document is available at the online Recognition Portal
  • Evidence of proficiency in the German language at minimum A2 level and Nursing professionals will require proficiency at B1 level
  • Enrollment in a course in German language if skills in language are not assessed already
  • Original copy of the employment contract
  • Evidence of qualification and any certificates of past professional activity
  • Approval letter from the Federal Agency for Employment if applicable
  • Mandatory health insurance from an employer in Germany
  • The fee of Euros 75 for Visa application

You will have to carry two copies of the documents specified above and all certificates inclusive of the employment contract that have to be submitted as original versions. The Embassy/Consulate of Germany has the right to seek extra documents if required and an extra fee can be incurred for this.
