Alberta Express Entry and Canadian Permanent Residence

Alberta Express Entry is one of the immigration streams of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program. AINP is the Provincial Nominee Program managed by the Alberta province. The stream chooses candidates from the pool of federal Express Entry and offers invites for Provincial Nomination applications.

You will be offered the ITA for Canadian Permanent Residence if you are successful in receiving Provincial Nomination through Alberta Express Entry. The application for this program is only through invitation and overseas citizens cannot directly apply for the program.

Alberta Express Entry is a stream of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program that is aligned with the federal Express Entry. So all candidates in the pool of federal Express Entry are automatically considered once they create their profile in it. Alberta directly shares the notification with the Express Entry profiles of the candidates that it chooses for ITA.

The precise criterion for selection through the program has not been disclosed. But Provincial Nominee Program of Alberta reveals that candidates who show a strong affinity with the Province and can support diversification and economic development will be prioritized.

Application Process

If you wish to apply to the Alberta Express Entry, you must first create a profile in Express Entry after confirming if you fulfill the eligibility requirements. You have to then wait for receiving an NOI - Notification of Interest from the Alberta province.

It must be noted here that fulfilling the minimum requirements for eligibility does not assure that you will be offered an invitation by Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program. The profiles of candidates in Express Entry are reviewed by AINP and only selected candidates are offered an invitation for nomination. You can submit an application for Provincial Nomination from Alberta only if you are invited to do so by AINP.

You will be given an exact deadline for filing the complete application with AINP if you are offered the NOI. If your application is approved by Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, you will receive a notification for being selected for the Provincial Nomination. It will be sent to your online account in Express Entry.

Your CRS score will be increased by 600 points once you accept the Provincial Nomination. It almost assures that you will be offered an ITA for Canadian Permanent Residence in the subsequent draw in the Express Entry pool. You have to arrange and file the application for Canadian Permanent Residence within a specified timeline after receiving the ITA.

Factors that affect the Selection and Notification Process

Alberta chooses candidates based on the information available in their profile in the pool of federal Express Entry and offers the NOI Letters. The information in the profile is declared by the candidates themselves.

You have to share a copy of the letter and extra information with the AINP through email within 14 days of receiving the letter. This is if you are offered the NOI letter and wish to be considered for the Alberta Express Entry stream.

NOI Letters and Application requests are influenced by:

  • The volume of prospective candidates who fulfill the requirements.
  • The type of submissions (sector or occupations) in the processing queues of AINP.
  • The number of nominations that are available.

You can receive the NOI Letter if in case you:

  • Have a profile in a pool of Express Entry that is active.
  • Have declared interest in permanently immigrating to Alberta.
  • Are employed in an occupation that supports the diversification and economic development of Alberta.
  • Have at least a score of 300 in the Comprehensive Ranking System.

Factors that boost your chances

Your probability of getting the NOI Letter is increased if you fulfill one or multiple of the following factors for adaptability:

  • You possess employment experience in Alberta or are offered a job.
  • You have obtained graduation from a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • You have a sibling, child, or parent who is a Permanent Resident in Alberta or a citizen of Canada residing in Alberta.

Factors that reduce your chances

Your probability of getting the NOI Letter is reduced if you fulfill one or multiple of the following factors:

  • Your profile in Express Entry will expire within 5 months or even earlier.
  • You are employed in an occupation:
  • Present on the List of Low-wage and High-wage occupations in Alberta province as specified by the Canadian Government on the list of Refusal for Processing Labor Market Impact Assessment.
  • On the list of Ineligible Occupations for Alberta Opportunity Stream.
  • Having a huge volume of application submissions across all streams in AINP.
