The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has conducted a new Canberra Matrix invitation round. 

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has established a fixed number of nominations allotted each month (pro-rata against the annual allocation). The highest-ranked Matrix in each occupation was invited to apply for ACT nomination in this invitation round.

Canberra Matrix Invitation Round: 12 October 2023

The latest ACT Canberra Matrix invitation round held on October 12, 2023, issued 168 invitations to Subclass 491 visa candidates under the Canberra Residents and Overseas Applicants streams.

Canberra Residents

  • Occupation Group: Small Business Owners
  • Subclass 491 visa nominations: 7 invitations with a minimum matrix score of 80
  • Occupation Group: Matrix nominating 457 / 482 visa holders
  • Subclass 491 visa nominations: 2 invitations
  • Occupation Group: Matrix nominating Critical Skill Occupations
  • Subclass 491 visa nominations: 74 invitations

Overseas Applicants

  • Occupation Group: Matrix nominating Critical Skill Occupations
  • Subclass 491 visa nominations: 85 invitations

Depending on the remaining monthly allocation, occupation cap & demand, and the date & time of the Matrix submission - the minimum cut-off for selection is determined. The higher the rank of the Matrix score invited - the greater the demand for occupation.

No Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa nominations were issued in this invitation round.

2023-2024 Allocation of ACT Nomination

The ACT received an interim allocation for the 2022-2023 program year.

  • Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa: 600 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa: 600 places

As of the October 12th draw, 

Total approvals: 666 approvals | 190 Nominations: 376 approvals | 491 Nominations: 290 approvals

Total refusals: 119 applications | 190 Nominations: 51 refusals (12%) | 491 Nominations: 68 refusals (19%)

Total allocation remaining: 534 nomination places (67 per month) | 190 Nominations: 224 | 491 Nominations: 310

Invitations are not guaranteed. ACT responds to requests for information on ranking or the likelihood of receiving an invitation to apply. Matrix will not be prioritized or issued invitations based on personal circumstances. This includes but is not limited to, visa expiry dates or a change in circumstances including critical birthdays.

Also, surpassing the minimum cut-off ranking score is an indication only, and does not guarantee an invitation to apply for Australia PR. Candidates who had previously received an ACT nomination or did not have an active application in the system - did not receive an invitation to the draw.
