The Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program (AAIP) helps people move to Alberta, Canada, to work and settle there permanently. It is designed to meet Alberta’s economic and labour market needs by inviting skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates to apply for permanent residency.
The AAIP works by selecting candidates who have the skills and experience that are in demand in Alberta. This is done through regular “draws.” In these draws, candidates are chosen from the Express Entry pool or other streams based on specific criteria like occupation, language ability, and work experience. Each draw has its own requirements, and only candidates who meet those are invited to apply.
For example, Alberta may hold a draw targeting people in high-demand fields like healthcare, technology, or skilled trades. Candidates who score high on factors like education, job offer, and ties to Alberta (like having relatives in the province) have better chances of being selected.
Once selected, candidates receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) or a nomination, which adds 600 points to their Express Entry profile. This nomination almost guarantees that they will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the next federal draw.
By holding targeted draws, Alberta ensures that newcomers can fill important job gaps while contributing to the province’s economy. The AAIP is an excellent option for those wanting to build a future in one of Canada’s most vibrant provinces.
