A number of sub-immigration categories notably the British Columbia Skilled Worker program, are included in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), a Provincial Nominee Program managed by the government of British Columbia. BC Skilled Worker gives precedence to immigration nominees who have a work offer and a good possibility of joining the BC labour force.
Those candidates selected for the BC Skilled Worker program will be asked to submit a formal application for Canadian permanent residence. Candidates without Express Entry profiles may apply for this stream. The applicant may use Express Entry to apply to the stream for faster processing if they are qualified and have a current Express Entry profile. Candidates with experience in particular tech occupations may be eligible for expedited processing and other incentives through the BC Tech Pilot.
The British Columbia Skilled Worker stream has a system in place for expressions of interest (EOI). If candidates meet the qualifications for the basic stream, they can build a profile using the BC's online immigration portal. Candidates must indicate on this BC profile whether they want to apply through Express Entry Program or the regular Skills Immigration route. After the profile has been uploaded, candidates will be ranked and compared using the BC Skills Immigration Ranking System. The top applicants will be encouraged to apply when the stream has one of its regular intakes.
Candidates must submit a thorough and final application of the program within 30 days of receiving the invitation to apply. The application fee for the BC Skilled Worker stream is $1150 CAD per candidate. If the application is approved, BC will provide a provincial nomination for permanent residence to the applicant. Candidates may also request a letter of support for a temporary work visa in order to begin working in Canada while their application for permanent residency is being processed.
If the candidate indicated on their BC profile that they were using the traditional Skills Immigration method to apply to the BC Skilled Worker stream, they had six months to submit a formal application for permanent residence. You must fill out a paper application and mail it to the authorised application centre. Paper-based applications for permanent residence are usually processed in 18 months.
