Exciting news for families looking to reunite in Canada!
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just announced updates to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) this fall. This program is set to help even more families come together in the Great White North.
Starting on October 10, 2023, IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors, aiming to receive up to 15,000 complete applications. This means more families have a chance to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada.
IRCC will also be selecting potential sponsors from the pool of submissions made in 2020. So, if you submitted an interest to sponsor form back then but didn't get an invitation in 2021 or 2022, keep an eye on your email. You might just receive an invitation this time!
For those individuals who are invited to apply in 2023, the process remains user-friendly. You can use the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal to submit your applications electronically, making the journey to reunification smoother.
Immigrate to Canada with your Family!
Every year, the IRCC sets out its Immigration Levels Plan to guide its operations. Under the Canada Immigration Level Plans for 2023-2025, Canada aims to welcome 465,000 new permanent residents, with a specific goal of bringing in 28,500 parents and grandparents. Looking ahead to 2025, the target is even higher - 500,000 newcomers, including 36,000 parents and grandparents. This shows Canada's commitment to family reunification.
For Canadian citizens and permanent residents, the Canada Super Visa is an excellent option to bring parents and grandparents to Canada. This temporary visa allows your loved ones to stay for up to five consecutive years without needing to renew their visitor status. What's more, Super Visa holders can visit Canada multiple times over a 10-year period. If you already have a Super Visa, you might be eligible to extend your stay for up to seven years.
To be eligible for the Super Visa, you need to meet a few basic requirements:

Unlike some programs, the Super Visa doesn't operate on a lottery system. It's available throughout the year, offering greater certainty for those wanting to sponsor their parents or grandparents.
The updates to Canada's Parents and Grandparents Program and the availability of the Super Visa provide excellent opportunities for candidates wanting to immigrate to Canada with family. With simpler processes and higher immigration targets, Canada remains committed to welcoming families from all over the world.
