How does the OINP work?

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is designed to support and sustain employers by facilitating the immigration of managerial, professional, and skilled foreign workers and international students – required to meet their human resources needs.

Run in partnership with the federal immigration department IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada – candidates seeking to apply under the OINP must follow a two-step process:

STEP 1: Apply for nomination to the provincial government.

STEP 2: If nominated, apply for Canada PR to the federal government.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program currently manages three immigration categories:

  1. Human Capital: Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream, Masters Graduate Stream, and Ph.D. Graduate Stream.
  2. Employment Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream, International Student Stream, In-Demand Skills Stream, and Regional Immigration Pilot.
  3. Business Immigration: Entrepreneur Stream.
For immigrants looking for a Canadian province to study, work, invest, and settle in – Ontario is the place to be. In 2021 alone, Ontario welcomed over 195,000 immigrants. To increase your chances of getting nominated by Ontario you can choose the suitable NOC Code, boost your language skills, stick to the document checklist, gain more academic & employment experience, and hire an immigration consultant.
