Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new draw. This was the first invitation round conducted by the department in 2025. Last year, IRCC conducted 52 draws that invited 98,903 candidates to apply for Canada PR.

If you have been invited to this Express Entry latest draw, you will have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence (PR) to the IRCC. If this timeframe passes, your Invitation to Apply (ITA) will no longer be valid.

Express Entry PNP-specific draws

Express Entry PNP-specific draws are designed for candidates nominated by a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). These draws allow provinces and territories in Canada to address their unique labour market needs by selecting skilled workers who match their requirements. Each province has its own PNP streams linked to the Express Entry system, such as those targeting healthcare, technology, or other high-demand sectors.

If you receive a provincial nomination through a PNP Express Entry stream, you get 600 additional points toward your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This significantly boosts your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a federal Express Entry draw. In many cases, a provincial nomination almost guarantees that you will receive an ITA.

PNP-specific draws focus solely on candidates nominated by provinces, ensuring they meet the regional labour demands. These draws are crucial for applicants who may not have a competitive CRS score otherwise.

By targeting PNP-specific draws, candidates can leverage their skills and experience to align with provincial needs, creating a pathway to Canadian permanent residence. It’s important to research each province’s requirements and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the right PNP to maximize your chances.

Out of the overall planned permanent resident admissions targeted in the Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2025 for economic immigration (395,000), 55,000 will be welcomed through Express Entry PNP-specific draws.

The targets for the PNP-specific draws have been cut by about 50% - as compared to 2024. The new target is 55,000 admissions per year for 2025, 2026, and 2027. In contrast, the federal high-skilled programs managed through the Express Entry Program will see an increase, starting at 124,680 in 2025.
