BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Category

The Skills Immigration category is one of the two categories managed under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The Skills Immigration category targets foreign workers and international graduates with the qualifications needed to fill an in-demand occupation in British Columbia.

The process begins with submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) or registration to the BC PNP, where candidates are ranked using the BC PNP points calculator. Targeted invitations in this Skills Immigration draw are issued based on the following selection factors:

  • Education - level and field of education and where it was completed
  • Eligible professional designations in B.C.
  • Language skills
  • Occupation
  • Duration and skill level of work experience
  • Wage and/or skill level of job offer
  • Intent to live, work and settle in a specific region
  • Strategic priorities - factors that address specific labour market needs in B.C. or support government pilot projects and initiatives

Every week, typically on a Wednesday, the province conducts a draw and invites the highest-scoring candidates to submit a complete application for permanent residence to the BC PNP. These ITAs are issued based on the information provided in the registrations. Information provided in the registration is used to rank, select, and invite candidates most likely to meet British Columbia’s labour market and economic needs.

Currently, 80% of applications under the BC PNP are being processed within 8 to 10 months.
