Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new Express Entry draw of the week. Just yesterday, IRCC welcomed 2,095 candidates to apply for Canada PR across a General Express Entry draw. Usually, Express Entry draws are held once every two weeks. But, since February, the department has been conducting two to three invitation rounds every two weeks.

The Express Entry latest draw held on April 24, 2024, saw invitations being issued to 1,400 candidates across a French language proficiency draw. Invited candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 410 to be eligible.

Express Entry Draw #295 - Results

Type of draw: French language proficiency (2024 - 1)

  • Number of invitations issued: 1,400
  • Rank required to be invited to apply: 1,400 or above
  • Date and time of round: April 24, 2024, at 14:10:42 UTC
  • CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 410
  • Tie-breaking rule: April 07, 2024, at 02:06:46 UTC

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the CRS score cut-off will be based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Candidates invited in this draw will now have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency to the IRCC. On the other hand, candidates who did not get invited will remain in the pool of candidates. They can expect to receive an invitation in the next Express Entry draw.

French-Language Proficiency Category Eligibility

As compared to the other newly announced Express Entry selection categories, French-Language Proficiency is the only one that does not consider work experience as the key attribute to be issued an ITA.

To be eligible under the French-Language Proficiency category, you must

  • Have French-language test results that show a minimum score of 7 in all 4 language abilities on the Niveaux De Compétence Linguistique Canadiens.
  • Meet all of the requirements in the instructions for that invitation round.

Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has a mandate to promote the French language outside of Quebec. Announcing the first-ever French-Language Proficiency Express Entry draw, IRCC quoted, “ By prioritizing the invitation of French-speaking newcomers, Canada aims to support economic growth through Francophone immigration outside Quebec while recognizing how it enriches and strengthens these communities.”

According to the latest Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is looking to welcome 31,500 French-speaking permanent residents (PRs) in 2025 and 36,000 newcomers under the same category in 2026.
