Demand in Canada for Transport Occupations

The six categories chosen for Express Entry draws are made up of occupations that are currently facing high shortages in Canada. Trades, Transport, Equipment Operations - and related occupations are among the sectors that are experiencing the greatest need (around 16%) for skilled labour.

According to a report, the following occupations are projected to have drastic labour shortages across the Transportation sectors in the next 12 years.

  • Trucking (25,000 to 55,600 by 2023-2035)
  • Aviation (42,000 to 55,000 by 2025-2035)
  • Marine (1,000 to 19,000 by 2031-2035)
  • Rail (4,000 by 2035)

While category-based draws are a specific way for you to come to Canada - if you have work experience in transport occupations, you are also eligible to apply for Canada PR visa via standard Express Entry or Provincial Nominee Program draws.
