IRCC Conducts New Express Entry Draw After 1 Month

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new Express Entry draw.

The Express Entry latest draw held on May 30, 2024, saw 2,985 ITAs being issued to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 676 to be considered for an invitation.

• Number of invitations issued: 2,985
• Rank required to be invited to apply: 2,985 or above
• Date and time of round: May 30, 2024, at 14:59:31 UTC
• CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 676
• Tie-breaking rule: January 19, 2024, at 18:32:21 UTC

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the CRS score cut-off will be based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Program-Specific Express Entry Draws

The Express Entry latest draw was the first program-specific invitation round conducted by IRCC since the introduction of category-based Express Entry draws in June 2023. In a program-specific draw, candidates from the Express Entry pool who have applied through a specific Canada PR program are selected – rather than inviting candidates from all programs.

This draw is the first since April 24 and follows a month-long pause in draws.

IRCC has not yet confirmed a reason for the pause. However, according to a report, the department said all invitation rounds this year will occur on a predetermined schedule. IRCC has not made the draw schedule public. The report also said that the draw size and frequency will be determined based on the admission targets in 2024 and 2025. 

Including the May 30 invitation round, IRCC has conducted 18 Express Entry draws in 2024. 

Types of Express Entry Draws

IRCC ranks potential candidates in the Express Entry pool across three different types of draws.

• General rounds of invitations
• Program-specific rounds of invitations
• Category-based rounds of invitations

In an Express Entry draw, IRCC:

• Chooses the type of draw,
• Decides the number of candidates,
• Identifies the highest-ranking candidates, and
• Invites them to apply for Canada PR.
