Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new Express Entry draw. This was the first invitation round conducted by the department in October. Last month, IRCC conducted three Express Entry draws - and invited almost 6,000 candidates to apply for Canada PR.

The latest Express Entry draw was held for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. If you have been invited in this draw, you will have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence (PR) to the IRCC.

Express Entry’s PNP-Specific Draws

The Express Entry Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws are a key part of Canada’s immigration system, helping provinces and territories select skilled workers who can contribute to their local economies.

The Express Entry Program manages applications for three main immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

Through the PNP, provinces can nominate candidates in the Express Entry pool who meet specific regional labour market needs.

Each province or territory participating in the PNP has its own criteria and holds regular draws to invite candidates who match their requirements. These draws help them address local labour shortages by selecting skilled workers with relevant experience and qualifications. Some of the popular provinces include Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

To be considered for a PNP draw, candidates must first create an Express Entry profile and indicate their interest in being nominated by a particular province. If selected, they receive a “provincial nomination,” which adds 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, greatly increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

The PNP draws are important because they allow Canada to address specific labour market demands while helping skilled workers find a pathway to permanent residence. This system is highly beneficial for candidates with lower CRS scores, as a provincial nomination significantly boosts their chances of becoming permanent residents.
