Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has provided additional updates regarding their plans to remove points for a job offer under Canada’s Express Entry system. This news comes after a recent news release, where the department announced that they would be instituting this change in the spring of 2025.

IRCC further clarified that the removal of these additional points for having a valid job offer is a “temporary measure”, but this time the department has not stated when it will end.

Original announcement
Last week on December 17, Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller first announced that Express Entry candidates looking to apply for Canada PR will no longer receive additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for having an LMIA-based job offer.
At the time, he did not provide further details on how this change would be implemented or how it could impact candidates. Currently, Express Entry candidates can receive an additional 50 or 200 CRS points for having a valid job offer.
With IRCC’s plan to temporarily remove additional CRS points for valid job offers under the Express Entry system starting in spring 2025, immigrants must adapt their strategies to secure permanent residence in Canada.
Even without additional points in the CRS score calculator for job offers, Canada remains a welcoming destination with numerous pathways for skilled immigrants looking to work in Canada. Just make sure your Express Entry profile is complete and highlights all eligible factors. Be ready for program-specific draws that may prioritize certain occupations.
