British Columbia gave away the results of latest draw under the Skills Immigration category on August 16. Results were made public for both General and Targeted draws. The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) sent out its weekly batch of invitations on. More than 224 new applicants were asked to apply for a provincial nomination.

177 invitations were sent from the General draw (including Tech occupations) category including: 

• Skilled Workers category with a minimum score of 120.
• Skilled Worker (EEBC option) category with a minimum score of 132.
• International Graduate category with a minimum score of 105.
• International Graduate (EEBC option) category with a minimum score of 110.
• Entry Level and Semi-Skilled category with a minimum score of 78.

26 invitations were sent from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate (including EEBC option) with a minimum score of 60, targeting Childcare: Early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214). 

15 invitations were sent from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Entry Level and Semi-Skilled (including EEBC option) with a minimum score of 60, targeting Healthcare occupation. 

5 invitations were sent from the Entry Level and Semi-Skilled worker category with a minimum score of 60, targeting Healthcare Assistants (NOC 3413). 

Less than 5 invitations were sent from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate (including EEBC option) category with a minimum score of 60 targeting other priority occupations (NOCs 3114, 3213). 

How does BC PNP work? 

British Columbia has minimum qualifying standards for the SW streams, however not every applicant who fits these conditions receives an invitation to apply. In fact, the BCPNP holds SW draws on a regular basis, and each draw has a different minimum cutoff score for each of the two SW streams. You will definitely be invited to participate in the upcoming draw if your score is 135 points or above, as that is the current standard cut-off (applicable to change).

An applicant will gain an additional 600 CRS points in their Express Entry profile if they are nominated under the Express Entry category, which will ensure that they receive an Invitation to Apply.

The BC PNP issues invitations to candidates based on the following indicators of merit:

• Education – level and field of education and where it was completed
• Language skills
• Occupation
• Duration and skill level of work experience
• Wage and/or skill level of job offer
• Intent to live, work and settle in a specific region
• Strategic priorities – factors that address specific labour market needs in B.C. or support government pilot projects and initiatives

Candidates must meet the minimal SW stream eligibility standards and register a profile in BCPNP Online in order to be considered for the Skills Immigration category (which is not associated with Express Entry).

After that they receive a direct application invitation in their BCPNP Online profile.

The next step is to make an application through BCPNP Online for the SW stream within 60 days of getting an invitation to do so (filling in forms and uploading required documents).

Within six months of receiving the nomination, apply for permanent residence with the federal government (IRCC). Candidates must submit their applications to IRCC on paper together with the BCPNP nomination materials.
