What is the importance of the priority sectors and occupations?

The Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) is a pathway to apply for Canada PR - led by employers. To qualify, candidates must receive a job offer from a designated employer approved by an economic development organization within a participating community.

However, only employers in specific priority sectors are expected to receive this designation. This means applicants with work experience in those targeted occupations will have the best chance of qualifying under the RCIP.

As of now, communities like Sault Ste. Marie and Brandon have not yet released their lists of designated employers. Timmins, located in Northern Ontario, recently became the first to publish its list of priority sectors and occupations. There are 14 communities involved in RCIP, and more are expected to announce their priority areas in the coming months.
