Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted another all-program Express Entry draw.

After a long wait, Canada conducted an all-program Express Entry draw last week on January 11 – the first of 2023. The January 18 draw is the second all-program Express Entry draw for the year 2023.

Who was invited?

Being an all-program draw, candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were eligible to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the latest Express Entry draw.

This all-program Express Entry draw issued a total of 5,500 ITAs to candidates, with a minimum CRS score of 490. A 17-point drop from the January 11 Express Entry draw cut-off score of 507.

The tie-breaking rule set for this draw was November 24, 2022, at 21:14:59 UTC. Potential candidates that met the minimum score threshold were only invited if they had submitted their profile to the Express Entry pool before this date.

How does an Express Entry draw work?

The IRCC ranks candidates in the pool using a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Highest-ranking candidates are then selected from the pool – and invited to apply for Canada PR.

Each Express Entry draw conducted has a set of instructions that are:

• Posted online at the time of the draw.
• Used by the Express Entry system to invite candidates from the pool.

The instructions generally include:

• The date and time of the draw.
• The number of candidates that will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
• Which immigration program(s) are included in the draw (some draws may only invite candidates for 1 program, for example only from Federal Skilled Trades).

Candidates wanting to apply under the Express Entry program can use this information to see how likely they are to receive an ITA in the next Express Entry draw.
