The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new Express Entry draw. This was the third invitation round conducted by the department in December.
This latest Express Entry draw was a surprise, as IRCC conducts these draws every two weeks - typically on a Tuesday. However, draws under the Express Entry Program have had a very unusual pattern throughout 2024.
For instance, IRCC conducted nine Express Entry draws in July welcoming over 25,000 candidates, but only three draws were conducted in September. Whereas, in October and November, the department again conducted six draws each. This has made it difficult to predict when the next Express Entry draw will be held.
The latest Express Entry draw held on December 16, 2024, saw invitations being issued to 1,085 candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Invited candidates required a minimum CRS score of 727 to be eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Draw No: #330
Type of draw: Provincial Nominee Program
If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the CRS score cut-off will be based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
If you have been invited
If you have been issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in this latest Express Entry draw, you will have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence (PR) to the IRCC. Your ITA will not be valid, if this timeframe passes.
Express Entry PNP draws are a way for Canadian provinces and territories to select candidates from the Express Entry pool to meet their labour market needs. The Express Entry Program is used to manage applications for three federal immigration programs:
Each province and territory in Canada has its own Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) designed to nominate candidates who can contribute to the local economy. In an Express Entry PNP draw, provinces select candidates based on their skills, work experience, education, and ties to the province. These candidates receive a nomination, which gives them additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), improving their chances of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
The frequency and size of these PNP draws vary, with some provinces holding regular draws, while others hold them as needed. PNP draws are a great way for candidates with lower CRS scores to get selected for Canadian immigration, especially if they have a strong connection to a particular province or meet its specific labour needs.
Currently, 80% of the applications under the Express Entry PNP are being processed in 6 months.
