The UK Global Talent Visa is an immigration category for talented and promising individuals who want to work in the UK. It replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa in February 2020. With this visa, foreign skilled workers can live and work in the UK for up to 5 years at a time.

UK Global Talent Visa Eligibility

To be eligible for the UK Global Talent Visa, you must be a leader or potential leader in one of the following fields:

• Academia or Research
• Arts and Culture
• Digital Technology

You must also be at least 18 years old.

You can usually only apply for this visa if you have successfully applied for an endorsement to prove that you are a leader or potential leader. If you have won an eligible award, you can apply for this visa without an endorsement.

If you do not qualify for this visa, there are other ways to work in the UK, for example under the UK Skilled Worker Visa.

UK Global Talent Visa Documents Required

When applying for the UK Global Talent Visa, you will need to provide:

• A valid passport and/or other identity documents.
• Your tuberculosis test results.

You will also need a blank page in your passport for your visa if you are:

• From outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland.
• From the EU, EEA, or Switzerland but do not have a biometric passport with a chip in it.

If you have an award or scholarship to study in the UK, you will need written permission to apply, from the government or agency that granted it. If your documents are not in English or Welsh, you will need to provide a certified translation.

How to apply for UK Global Talent Visa?

To apply for UK Global Talent Visa, you need to have either:

• Won an eligible award.
• Successfully applied for an endorsement to prove that you are a leader or potential leader.

You can apply for this visa online. You may also be able to apply at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in your home country. As part of the UK Global Talent Visa application, you will also need to submit the supporting documents and pay the processing fee. Your partner and children can also apply to join you or stay in the UK as your ‘dependants’ if they’re eligible.

The cost to apply for UK Global Talent Visa is £716.

If you are applying with an endorsement, you must pay the £716 in two instalments:

• £524 when you apply for the endorsement.
• £192 when you apply for the visa.

If you are applying with an eligible award, you must pay the full £716. If you are including your partner or children in your application, they will each need to pay £716.

Healthcare Surcharge

You’ll also have to pay the healthcare surcharge for each year of your stay - this is usually £1,035 per year for each person applying.

UK Global Talent Visa Processing Time

The latest UK Visa processing time to apply for UK Global Talent Visa is 3 weeks if you are outside the UK and 8 weeks if you are applying from inside the UK. You may be able to pay to get super-priority faster service.

UK Global Talent Visa Validity

The UK Global Talent Visa is valid for 5 years at a time. After this, you will need to apply for an extension. Each extension can last from 1 to 5 years - depending on how long you want to stay in the UK.

After 5 years, you may also be eligible to apply for UK PR Visa and move to the UK permanently. UK PR Visa, also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain (ILR)’, allows you to study, work, and live in the United Kingdom as long as you like.

UK Global Talent Visa Extension

You can usually apply for UK Global Talent Visa extension and stay in the UK if either:

• You applied for the visa based on an endorsement, and the organization that endorsed you has not withdrawn its approval.
• You applied for the visa based on an eligible award you won, and the award has not been withdrawn.

Your partner and children will need to submit a separate application to extend their visa.
